promise

once
in wistful promise of spring
crocus buds scattered
vaguely peeking
in patchwork manner
beneath cedar shelves
spilling fragrance
contrary to winter

"Winter must be cold for those with no warm memories - we've already missed the spring"

"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass; it's about learning how to dance in the rain."

We haven't had many answers to these challenges. Maybe we'll just hold it over one more week.
I like your picture from the word list very much, ms!
Elle, I'm not sure which challenge you're answering. :)

Holiday Food

Solid milk chocolate,
hollow ears,
crunchy,
nutty,
gummy bears.

Bunnies, big and small
on chocolate Easter eggs.
Which came first,
egg?
Bunny?
The question begs.

Tiny chocolate eggs
gumdrops,
chocolate
bunny
lollipops.

Our basket overflows
with chocolate
goodiness.
Pilfer this one,
highjack that.
Me and my
little
accomplice.

Crazy Cartographers!

East is left and right is west.
…er, no wait a minute.
We’re lost somewhere
in the American midwest.

We were aiming for Oklahoma,
a large target to have missed.
But I think from following all these squiggles,
I’ve slipped into a coma!

We could have taken a plane
and been there late last week,
Or navigate by greyhounds.
Oh why didn’t I take the train?

#3 word list

Smells like Spring!

Contrary to popular thought,
not all forest fragrances
lead to wistful memories.
The potpourri on the shelf
holds the promise of cedar boughs
and fir branches in a patchwork
of greening scents.
But there is a vague, unpleasant
odor staining the air,
its manner at once beckoning
and at the same telling me
to keep my distance.

The ground is boggy
and my steps slurp
through the soup
until I spy
the skunk cabbage.

In the bog, mslover, only in the bog.

I'm still waiting for your "sweet" poem, ms.

Well, mae, NOW you've done it...turned on my sweetostat. Chocolate...I must have chocolate! Hurry! I like you spring smells. Oh, how I remember the skunk cabbage in the low spot on our farm! Now that I'm in Vermont, they have what they call the "mud season" here. Oh, my! Boggy, slurpy. I like the themes you built your poems around.
And yeah, ms, where is it?
(Don't anybody comment on my goofing off lately. I TOLD you in my personal blog what I was doing. Anyone want to join me? Liked your posts around Easter on fb, mae.)

Does skunk cabbage grow back east, too? It really is stinky, but it's so unusual looking that I like it anyway.

And candy isn't candy if it isn't chocolate. I'm just saying.

summer

our first kiss, sweet
like honey-drizzled summertime
you and me in our
swing pushing
poetry reading
lemonade drinking
kick-the-can playing
memory making summer love.

not quite what i thought i would get from "sweet" but there it is.
