TUESDAY POETRY CHALLENGE (on Sunday) Feb 6, 2011

Postby Mlou » Sun Feb 06, 2011 10:13 am

Happy New Year Everybody! Better late than never, I always say. Thought I'd post another word list to see if anyone might stir. :)

Please write a poem from:
absence, snow, leaf, curtain, golden, paper, singing, wherever, branch, handle
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

Finally back writing after a while

Postby LizGrayson » Mon Feb 14, 2011 2:22 pm

Ok I didn't use ALL the words, but I tried :D

The first line is a line I've wanted to use in a poem for a while now, so here it is.

Colony

Trees are reluctant nudists, their
Gnarled branch-fists grasping
At golden-leaf mutinies,
Clutching paper curtains soon loosened by
Disrobing winds.

Ok so it's a first draft. I'm sure it'll change frequently and often

Taking Hold

Today snow is dripping
from house eaves and their curtain
of icicles has melted under
golden fingers of sun.
The bird that I keep
on that green-leafed branch
in my heart, has begun singing
and wherever I turn
the absence of winter's
cold grasp is evident.
I feel like floating paper boats
in puddles and I think
I've finally got a handle
on spring.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

Your poem is lovely. It's been a gorgeous day here and it captures my feelings on spring exactly. I promise I'll try to be back soon. I'm working on a blog at http://www.jenniesisler.wordpress.com if you'd like to take a look, a creative writing blog. Gotta get a few more things posted though :-D
