TUESDAY POETRY CHALLENGE - 10-26-10

Postby Mlou » Mon Oct 25, 2010 12:11 pm

Hi, poets!
This will be my last posting of a challenge here, unless some response becomes evident. With no feedback, or poetry-muscle flexing, there remains little sense in continuing. (Am I discouraged? Yes...)

1. In keeping with the above, let's have a poem entitled (or on the subject of) "Where Have All The Poets Gone?" Anyone remember that song, Where have all....?

2. Word List, which has always had a following, from which to build a poem:
nick, tang, cheek, gait, king, knocking, eave, skim, skein, ache

3. Write a poem about a window or windows.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

I will try, but it's difficult enough writing between phone calls for one site.

I know, Lilac, and where there is life and action, it's worth one's time and effort. The other site is alive and sadly, this appears moribund and time is valuable to us all.

It is too bad. This was a wonderful community. It provided inspiration, advice, and encouragement.

Challenge 1
Where have all the poets gone?

I walk down rows,
watching people,
wondering,
where have all the poets gone?

I hear words like
"LOL" and "OMG"
assault my ears
until the noise,
like a bursting drum,
overtakes my mind
and stops my brain.

WHERE ARE YOU?
I yell.

No one answers.

No one seems to
notice our words,
our once so beautiful words,
have lost their meaning,
their vibe,
their nerve.

They're all swear words now.

And the poets
have drowned in
these undrinkable waters.

Challenge 3 - Washing, Washing, Washing

My neighbor likes to wash windows.

I see tiredness in his eyes;
still he asks every month,
"Mind if I wash your windows?"

And he sing while he washes:
"The road goes ever on,
but the washing's never done.
So I keep-on-a-washing,
a-washing, a-washing, a-washing."

I give a ten for the trouble.
He leaves it in my mailbox.
I'll leave you a note in the freezer.

Boy, I wish he was MY neighbor! Have I got some windows for HIM! haha
I like your take on poets...and yes, I've been seeing a lot of profanity laden "poems" lately. WHY do thing think it's so cool? It adds nothing and shows a lack of imagination. Ah, well...
Did you get my long ago PM??

I'd like to have that window washing neighbor too. A lawn mowing one would be nice as well.

Nice to see someone still here, OP! :)
