TUESDAY POETRY CHALLENGE - 8-17-10

Postby Mlou » Tue Aug 17, 2010 8:46 am

Tuesday again...and "Tuesday tells the tale". Thought we might do so today with

1. A verse, no matter how short or long, which tells a tale.

2. Intimations of Autumn...just around the corner. How do you feel about summer ending/fall soon to be?

3. And our word list, of course, from which to craft a poem.
well, soldier, rare, allow, pure, fantasy, careless, shell, avoid, spoon

Have at it, poets!
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

BEACHCOMBER

Spooning through the scattering
of shells, driftwood, wrack, and one lost shoe
guarded by a dutiful soldier crab,
I allow myself to avoid the ordinary.
Carelessly crunching beneath my feet
dried seaweed and broken flotsam,
I search for the pearly white,
the deep-sea green of bottle glass,
the satiny shape of wood, well-scoured
by the ceaseless push and pull of waves,
even as we seek in vain the pure,
the rare, the perfect things of which
our fantasies are made.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

"Life is not about waiting for the storm to pass; it's about learning how to dance in the rain."
