Are weeks shorter than they used to be? It appears so. Or I'm slower than I used to be? That appears so, also.

1. The perennially favorite word list, from which to fashion a wonderful poem.
rod, fringe, column, hum, reprieve, seldom, captive, twirl, basic, circle

2. Give us a verse which somehow touches upon a color..any color.

The business end of the bee
is all I see,
so deep in a late-blooming
rose is she,
almost captive in
its silken fold.
Granted reprieve
on the fringe of coming cold,
she plunders the vine
that circles the columned dial,
twirls, hums and packs
her saddlebags, the while
I watch bemused. Soon, snug
hive-bound, she will remain,
untouched by the icy rod
of winter's reign.

Work in progress...gotta go. Might be back later to see how I could use "basic". But maybe not.

But it can't be that clear cut

There's a lonely guitar playing
the color purple
somewhere downstairs.

I await my haircut
from a mother-in-law
who sees things in
black and white.

And as I type my poetry
on a red Eee pc,
I can't help but
ponder the meanings of

Is that your title or a comment?? With you, we're not always sure. :)
Does m-i-l see your hair as black or white, or black AND white? Anyway, I like it, O.P.

Like a desert nomad
indelibly stained by the
blue dye of his robes,
I wear the rainbow color
of my words.

ok Mlou...I was commenting on the original thought thingy...and I was thinking about a poem I wrote a while back for a writing class. I got good feedback for it at the time and I may of put it up here a long time ago. Anyway, I went in search of and couldn't find the binder these poems and short stories were in and couldn't locate them. sad

Then I hit upon THIS thread now and lo and behold you were talking about a verse relating to color...THAT was weird since that was the poem I was wanting to submit. So. I searched AGAIN. And guess what?

I'm rambling.

Ain't I?

I found it!!!!

I hope that is good news. Cuz it's in the next comment box..

The Crayon

Will you reach for me, I wonder
I am just a color
A color shunned. Rejected.

What? Red?
Why must you torment me youthful child?
Your paper-blank and barren, needs me
to fill the paper's soul with darkness and despair.

Will you reach for me now, I wonder.
Now that the flowers are drawn.
I am just a color. Nothing to fear.
A color of night. Foreboding.

What? Green! Foiled again!
Child. Your paper is screaming.
Green grass becomes me after time.
Fading into nothingness. Withering to death.

Why won't you just take me and use me?
I am in despair! I am always the last shade chosen.

What's this?
You are reaching for me?
Could this be a cruel game?

No! Oh what joy, child you have given me!
The highest of honors bestowed!
Not a tree, not a flower. Not even the darkest of skies,

You used me to write your name.
My God, I could cry.

Hey, edit away. I'm always changing a bit here and there. But we have to know when to stop, lest it become overworked and lose that special something that a newly hatched poem has.

I do like this one, JB. Poor black, never gets a fair shake! You remind me that somewhere I have one...something about needing it to make the colors shine. Now if I can remember where...Wasn't about black, but about sorrow I think.

Oops...I see you DO have a title! But it needs to be at the head of your poem, not up there in fine print. :)

I found it. Will post in another thread to keep the challenge clear.

missing childhood

i miss my crayons
using my 8 fat colors,
the innocence of purple hair
and yellow sky,
limiting my choices
yet expanding my universe.
it's complicated now,
choosing between cerulean or cornflower,
burnt sienna or sepia, and
coloring outside the lines
causes chaos to my orderly life.
