TUESDAY POETRY CHALLENGE - 6-8-10

Postby Mlou » Wed Jun 09, 2010 7:08 pm

All our poets seem to be on vacation or dozing, :), so we'll just post a quickie word list from which to fashion at least ONE poem. And perhaps MS will chime in with challenge #2.

#1..word list: keep, wistful, perhaps, dash, fling, halo, never, simple, thread...bonus word: bravado
We'll add a bonus word occasionally..one that might be a bit harder to fit in. It's optional.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

(Getting done early this week..for a change. :) )

A WISTFUL THOUGHT ON PASSING A ROSEBUSH

The slender thread of a spider's web,
transformed by her artistry, bejeweled
by dew and haloed by sunlight...
Can beauty never be simply in and of itself?
Must it ever cloak danger, as when
an iridescent fly, with a dash of bravado
flings himself too near, and is
hers to keep, to wrap and package
for her larder? Can beauty exist
without thorns?
Perhaps.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

Advice

"Keep your heart unbroken"
she said with a wistful glance.
"Perhaps you'll find one unspoken,
with dash, bravado and a bit of dance."

"Be ready for a trip round Saturn's rings
and the halo surrounding the moon.
You'll feel when your heart begins to sing,
and when it beats to a happy tune."

But it's never as simple as we make it sound,
and her eyes misted up in pain.
She'd loved just once with a love profound,
but he'd gone to war and she'd remained.

The thread of duty that ran through his soul
made a hero of him one day.
He gave his life on a barren knoll
and with it took hers away.

Guess I'll add a couple of more challenges (tomorrow) and hold this one over.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...
