TUESDAY POETRY CHALLENGE 4-20-10

Postby Mlou » Mon Apr 19, 2010 6:16 pm

1. We haven't tried 4-in-3's in a long while. How about doing some this week? Three-line poems with 4 words in each line. ex:

Poetry is deep-rooted
Lives in the bone
Flows in the veins

2. Word List from which to craft a poem:
brief, sesame, momentary, blank, offering, draw, chosen, question, breath, wait
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

Explosive is my annoyance
At their stupid questions -
They should know better.

no one must know
how deeply sadness lingers.

Yes, ms, it does. Leave a link either here or on the Poetry Challenge page. Or post it in both places like Hiss did.

This is my answer to the Word List Challenge - a deep and profound piece that, I hope, will make you look into your very soul for the answer to my question. mae

Words used - brief, sesame, momentary, blank, offering, draw, chosen, question, breath, wait

Questioning the Use of Sesame Seeds on Hamburger Buns

Briefly felt I the need
to top my bun with tasteless seeds,
sesames, that is.

The momentary joy I found
erased by wonder to confound.
Why those seeds?

I cannot think why buns are better
with seeds added, unfettered.
My mind is blank.

I offer this message in short to draw
your attention to seeds caught in the craw
as well as the teeth.

We've chosen to think them superior,
buns with seeds on their exterior,
though I question why.

With bated breath, I here await
your answer to alleviate
my quandary.
My heart beats in poetry. I think in rhythm and dream in rhyme.

Give me a crit! I can take it!

Poppy seed or sesame?
'sall sesame to me!
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

THE THING
We're waiting today for an old jitney bus,
When some kind of oddity rolls up to us.
Pops up twixt one brief breath and the next,
Leaving us puzzled and leaving us vexed.
"What IS that?" He questions but I draw a blank.
It's something real furry and big as a tank.
Seems like we're chosen to hold it's attention,
For it eyes us from eyeballs, too many to mention.
Momentarily offering tentacle tips...
A greeting perhaps? And away the thing zips.
What was this strange creature we happened to meet?
Don't know but we saw it on Sesame Street.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

My 4-in-3, mae

National Poetry Month

When writing is forced
our thoughts are divorced
and pieces rarely endorsed.
My heart beats in poetry. I think in rhythm and dream in rhyme.

Give me a crit! I can take it!

WRITER'S BLOCK

Sometimes a chance suggestion,
Or an interesting question
Removes this dread congestion. :)
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...
