mlou, I have an idea for an apology poem - but it's hard and not at all light-hearted. I've started working on it, but it isn't coming easily, so it's going to take awhile. Plus, I'm doing a couple dozen other things right now also. But I really am working on poetry! I also need to comment on your writings, dear lady. I'll get there. I promise.

Wonderful, mae! Keep working. I know we have to let real life intrude once in a while. :D

Mae & Mlou
At your behest, I tried my best & spent some time on internal rhyme.
Here are the vapors, sans use of paper!

Morning Miasma
Out in the cool moist morn on the good side of dawn
Awaiting my ride with numb feet in want of some heat.
I buy coffee to warm, my mind’s liquid alarm
The freezing breezes bite in the day’s cold first light.
I gaze at the warm haze which erupts from the cup
Finding wispy images rise before my eyes.
A private show for this half-frozen mocha Joe
Lost to the dull stares of the other waiting fares.

(Lines 6 & 7 courtesy of Mlou- mille grazie!)

Mae, Looks like we've now created a monster. Wow!
He's inner-rhyming his notes just to "get our goats". :-D
Y' gotta love a guy who'll give anything a try.

my love

diaphanous arms wrap around
and over me, i submit
enveloped in the embrace of
sinuous curls, drawn to
scented warmth ~
breathe it in, it fills my veins
makes me whole,
i am addicted.

This is my apology poem, with an explanation following

Apology to Seven Year Olds

Life should be easy
when you're only seven.
Little boys should play baseball
and little girls have tea parties
with their daddies.

When you're only seven
you shouldn't have to worry
about parental visits
or Mom's drug test
or Dad being deported.

You should be learning to read
when you're seven
instead of hiding from grandpa.
At seven your baby teeth should fall out
instead of being knocked out.

Your mama should call you Sweetie
instead of me, the school volunteer.
Your hugs should come from her
and your daddy should tug on your pigtails,
when you're only seven.

I'm sorry, little one, that life is hard.
It should be easy
when you're only seven.

Explanation: I volunteer in a first grade class for a couple of hours once a week in an elementary school in our little town. My class has 22 students - or did have. Of that number, 5 are Hispanic, with no or very little English at home; 5 live with a single parent, foster parents or a grandparent; 8 are diagnosed with ADD or other learning disabilites; 1 has cerebral palsy. A number of these overlap. One of the little boys - whom I adored - lived with his great-grandpa because his parents had substandard living arrangements. When he went to visit his mom, she allowed him to play violent video games rated for older teens. One day he brought a toy gun to school and climbed up on the monkey bars and pretended to shoot other kids. He was often in fights and was suspended from school - from the first grade. After that, his mother took him to live with her, away from great-grandpa. He had to move away to live with her.

But this is a class with advantages. Last year's was worse by far than this year's class.

It shouldn't be this way when you're only seven.

One of the saddest truths of modern times...the dissolution of family and family values. And a permissive...aggressively permissive, if that makes sense...society in which anything and everything is okay.
