Somewhere between La Fayette and Dalton
Feeling asphalt-worn and uninspired
The leaves have gone from red to dead and fallen
And I have gone from "trying" to just "tired"

Lately it's been one thing or another
And I wonder why I'm even in this race
Heartache's sticking closer than a brother
And lonliness is breathing in my face

Mostly I am strong enough for whatever life can bring
I know how to lock in tough and not feel anything
Some might say my heart's on ice
I guess it's just my style
But now and then it'd sure be nice
To be held just like a child

Verse 2:

Naked in the cold glow of a streetlight
Every motel room looks just the same
The dark outside my window doesn't feel right
But I wouldn't know the sunshine if it came

I wear my sorrow like a high school letter
So proud I haven't given up the fight
And I know that tomorrow will be better
But knowing that won't keep me warm tonight

Hmmm...frequenting motel rooms, are we? My advice, Mudge. Always bring your teddy bear and throw on an extra blanket or two. At this point in my life, if I want to be warm at night........I wear socks to bed. The source of heat isn't what it used to be.

I have the opposite, problem, Mlou . . . one constant hot-flash any more

Did you see the rest of the song, posted earlier (before all the wisecracks from the Katie Couric Fan Club . . .)

So Mudge... is this a new song or an old one?

Thought so... but was curious if it was just a coincidence it felt new.

Mudge, you're an enigma I've got to meet and figure out one day.

Yes, I did see verse 1, Mudge. Very country-western-sad feeling. I think everyone has periods when they just need to be held for a while, child or not.

(Believe it or not, this is me being perky. Melody is weird, so it doesn't read quite right.)

You gotta pick your battles
You gotta know the score
Love will beat you up 'til you can't fight it anymore
You gotta keep the balance
You can't afford mistakes
You have to save yourself from love no matter what it takes

In over your head
Head over heels
You kinda start to like the way it feels
When your world has come undone
You can't blame love

When you're in too deep
With nowhere to go
I'm gonna be the one to say "I told you so"
Can't blame me, can't blame yourself, and you can't blame love

You can't get caught napping
'Cause this is do or die
Love will have you on the mat before you even try
You gotta pay attention
Don't wanna fool around
Love'll strip your defenses out and then kick you when you're down

It's hard to picture you in a big countrywestern hat with a guitar but lately it's getting a little easier. And this is your perky mood? Hmmmmmm....
Actually, it's a good one, Mudge. :)
