still cries in the woman
ravaged by time.

Isn't that little unspecific a cause and a trifle bit pessimistic as a result? It's difficult to get a hold on the circumstances when you can't pretty much blame anything else but 'time'. But you've told a lot in a few lines - just the way you always are able to do it. :-D

I guess that's one way to be ravaged

Thanks for your comments, purty. No, I'm not placing blame anywhere nor making excuses. Life is what it is. Merely describing the woman "ravaged by time" and mourning what is lost.
On that PIM site, you are limited to 20 words, or pieces of words, or single letters...if you use them to alter a word...so you are pretty restricted as to what you can create from it.

THE WAKE
In the soundless room
pale faces breathe the name
now empty of life
and cry for love's passing.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

MEMORIAL DAY
A mass of glorious, silken poppies
covering the graves, in
poignant reminder
of those honoured dead.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

Sandpipers,
coming and going
with the tide, are
tracing footprints like
transient poems
in the wet sand.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

I've always loved watching sandpipers at the beach. They seem to roll along almost as if they had wheels instead of feet. :)

LAST FLIGHT
Soft-throated twilight birds
silvery wings outstretched
hang in the wide
petticoat-red sky.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

PRIMA BALLERINA
She was a moon maiden
lost in luminosity,
dancing earth's cycle
with a powerful beauty
older than time.

BEWITCHED

Glance between shadows.
Strange faces appear, eyes staring,
mouths moving without sound...
a room crowded with
ancient presence.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

Love is elusive.
Let it not disappear
but breathing all the variations,
unlock its light.

So many words today you couldn't plow through all of them. No place to put them.

A crescent of yellow luminescence,
willow branches cascading
on the riverbank,
heralds the season to be.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

BI-FOCLED
Tears may flow
in the shuttered night
yet, by day, we wear the
masque of laughter.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

EDGE OF DAY
Sun touches blue-veined leaves
that flutter on the dancing air,
feathery as an angel's wings.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

MONUMENT
White-petaled daisies
wreath this place of stone
and tears, this silent sanctuary
for our bright-eyed brothers
now lost to us.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

BROWNSTONE BY NIGHT

Pierced-lantern light found the
gargoyle's eye, giving it an
expression curiously real.

TOO SWIFTLY GONE

We danced in the noon-day
'til play was over,
our pattern broken
when the music ceased.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

yesterday's:

Submerged in turqoise seas,
mermaids dance and motion me
toward watery shades.
Do not hear when sirens sing!

today's:

WINTER BIRCH
dreaming summer
while snowflakes fall upon
the naked branches.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

SUNDOWN
A hot red ball
inflames the evening sky and,
splintering away, is lost
to soft distances.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

BLESSED
We, barred from Paradise,
until he came with pure love
in a medallion of light.

I like, Mlou . . . but instead of "In a medallion of light", how about "AS a medallion of light"?

Just a thought.

Hmmm...yes, that works too. I was thinking in terms of his being surrounded by light, a halo of sorts.
