A kind gesture
Goes a long way
To make the world survive
A simple push
In the right way
Breeds joy throughout the day
So, smile and spread
Some joy to those
Who feel quite downtrodden
They all need love
To get through life
And you might be
God's dove.

Hmmm, a little Freudian thing going on here.
He says "an unwinnable hand is dealt him each time" but
the he comes up with the revelation: "he never quits dealing"...
HE is doing the dealing, ergo he's defeating himself.
He has the ability to deal a winning hand...even if he has to stack the deck! :D
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

Yes, but at the same time, he tries to play by the rules. BTW, Above your reply is my "happier" poem I promised!

Eh...you...call a' me...a bar of soap?? (My favorite kind, at least.)
Nah, just kidding. I know what you meant. Nice thought.
We all need to feel valued and liked. And we have to like ourselves first, in order to express that liking to others.

OK, without revealing too much, starting Monday, I'm attempting something that I sense I can't finish, but I need to... Nothing more to this poem than that...

The challenge ahead
I cannot meet
No way to achieve success
Without this victory
My goals are thwarted
My life upturned
No way back
Little path ahead
I must beat
The impossible task
Lest I am no more...

Believe
and a door will open,
a path will appear
at your feet.
Go on and trust
in yourself
and this fateful challenge
you'll meet.

God, I hope you're right, Mlou! But, knowing myself, I doubt it.

You doom yourself before you begin, with that attitude. When I want to do something I envision it all first, one step at a time, then I go for it. Try it!

Eternal Dance

A stormy churning
Slows the burning
Swirling through my soul
Flames dance lightly
On delicate twines
But the storm rebuffs their presence

I can't be sure
Of good nor bad
Each entity dwells both sides
For now they waltz among life's threads
Maintaining their yin and their yang.

Well, almost a year since I've seen this thread here! What's happening now that's opened it up again? Title? How about Eternal Dance?

I just felt like writing one today. No overwhelming emotion behind it like usual. We'll see.

I like it... though I'm not sure what it's about...?
Life is a parchment that no matter how many times you blot ink on it, you can't bring yourself to crumple it.

It's about the constant conflicts within each person's life - the yin and the yang - the light and the dark - the good and the bad - etc.

[untitled]

Under the canopy
Of the holy heavens above
One stares into the transparent haze
Hoping to find the much deeper truths
To uncover the meanings
I can't seem to find
Wishing for a gourmet plan of life
Yet knowing it's not so posh as that
The castle ahead,
Mysterious indeed,
Holds the secrets
I dare not reveal

"SEEKING", perhaps?
You could also use "I" instead of "one", if you wished to be consistent.
Same comment about "the much" and "the". It's good to cut what I call "minching" words wherever you can. This was a difficult list.

I can agree with all but "the much" as it "ruins" the rhythm in my mind. As you know, most of my poetry is "rhythm" based, so a single syllable could throw the whole thing off for me. I'll think of alternatives, though... Thanks! Any crit on the previous poem? (Notice I accepted your suggested title)

No. I feel the previous poem is as you wished to write it.

Sudden changes
Flittering inside
Joyous emotions
Filling the air
Sadness in absence
Bliss in your presence
Smiling all day
Hopelessly smitten
Wishing it never stops.

My desire for you
Is unrestrained
You fill my heart
With hope
My life makes sense
Since you walked in
And taught me how to love

My heart has started up again
I don't know how long its been
Since I've longed for something more.
Walk down the path of life with me
And show me where to go
Don't ever let these feelings ever end
For either me or for you
Our love will grow forever more
And nothing else will do

Through time and space
My heart has travelled
Searching for one true match
On its futile hunt
It lost its way
And ceased to seek once more
Then you came in
You found my heart
And led it back to me

Side by side
Hand in hand
Heart by heart we go
We'll never be the same again
Since our love began to grow.
