As a rule you don't need cover letters with poems.
If you don't have a published poetry past to brag about, just send them cold. I knew one editor who didn't want cover letters...just more stuff to read, for an already overworked editor.

Or they may get so annoyed at you they send out a hitman to take you out just so you won't send them anymore letters… (I'm kidding… sort of… muhahahaha!)

dont tell a paranoid those things!!

ok, the firefighters i cover are insane....
they were all craving for my attention today when i was at a promotion ceremony. one guy was talking to me about how motorists won't ever pull over to the side for a fire truck. another was talking to me about the police and how they can be annoying....but the BEST was that they wanted me to go up in the ladder truck...RIGHT THEN. i mean, yeah, i really wanted to go and do it....but I was kinda busy at the time. they were monopolizing my time as it was! lol

Were you wearing a skirt? That might have been why they wanted you on the ladder...

It'll get interesting when they start talking about the giant, mutated rats that dwell down there, b/c the rats eat the crocodiles and then they breed and soon there will be a new strain of bubonic plague (from the fleas crossing from rats to house cats to people, you see) will start spreading acorss the known world and…

I'm not making you more parinodi, am I?

~Tupwen, trying to keep the meeting interesting…

Did you make sure to clean your hammer in antiseptic? I hear there's some kind of new virus that's spread from hammerhead to hammerhead (this includes sharks) and can cause respiratory failure when the discussion of rats comes up…
