BBCode/Tag Tutorial

Postby Wordtrip » Tue Jan 20, 2004 3:04 pm

OK... quick note on how to use the Code thingies (BBCode).

First thing... make sure you don't have them turned off by having "Disable BBCode in this post" checked at the bottom of the message. If you want to have italics, bold, quotes, etc make sure there is NOT A check mark in that box.

2nd... there are two ways of using them. First is to type them in, Second is to use the buttons above. Most browsers will let you highlight with the mouse then click on the button you want to apply to that section of text. So if you wanted to bold something like a title, just drag the mouse across it and highlight it and then click on the B button. You can also click the B button, start typing what you want bold, then click the B button again to "close" the tag so it will return to normal text. You can type them in by hand as well, the code is the same as the button name so if you want to...

Code: Select all

[b][/b] Bold
[i][/i] - Italicize
[u][/u] - Underline
[quote][/quote] - Quote somebody
[list][/list] - Show a list of items
[img][/img] - Link to an image somewhere
[url][/url] - create a link to somewhere offsite
[tab] - indent your paragraph

So... that's about it... hope this helps anybody who's had trouble with using them... and if you click on the BBCode link when posting and it has a faq for that.

Um... Yes, I have a question. The URL tags hate me. I can't get them to work. At least for one of my sites It's bad!

Hey Violinagin...

Here's an example of using the urls from THIS SITE in a post and actually making it work. . .

http://wordtrip.com:/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=366&highlight=

You have to remove the : after "wordtrip.com" in order to make it work. . . so. . . copy paste and remove like this. . .

http://wordtrip.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=366&highlight=

Also. . . make sure there are no spaces between any letters. . . so. . . it would look like this when you're done.

When I put the link directly into my search bar, it comes up with nothing. I think the address is wrong or the site you're coming from is broken.

Can you see it when you enter the address in your computer? If you can, that doesn't mean we can see it because you're computer probably has cookies to the pictures.

Double check it again. :)

Ok... when I put this address in my computer, it tells me that the page doesn't exist on Freewebs.

I don't know what to tell you... but try what I told you in the PM.

I think it's an issue with the way freeweb works... they link you back to the site from which you came, but if I cut and past it in a new tab/window of my browser it works.
