Rant 'n' Rave with the Mudge (PG-13)

Postby TheMudge » Mon Nov 15, 2004 10:12 am

So . . . Ol' Dick Cheney's in the hospital. Again. Shortness of breath, or something. Doctors all over him like a NASCAR pit crew.

Now they come out and tell us "Oh, everything's fine . . . it's just a common cold".

This is supposed to make us feel BETTER?

No, it's not his heart, or a stroke, or an anurysm . . . nothing like that. The man was SIDELINED, DEBILITATED, and HOSPITALIZED over a COMMON COLD.

You are a MANLY man, aintcha, Dickie?

Are you making fun of Dick Cheney's plight...?

No, I'm RANTING about Dick Cheney's blight.

Similar, so I can see how you might get confused.

To be more precise, he was ranting over the "spin" of Dick Cheney's blight...

d'uh they're setting up Dick for retiration in a year or so... so they can replace him with a viable presidential candidate for 2008.

Do you think it's John McCain? I don't think Bush would have won the race with him as a vice pres but if they could put him in there now....

Interesting theory.

New Subject: Geiko. Fifteen minutes can save you 30% on car insurance.

Uh huh.

Do you have ANY idea how expensive it is to run television spots? To buy the time? To CREATE all those new spots?

How much money could you save me it all that advertising moolah wasn't necessary?

Fifteen minutes COULD mean I win the lottery, too. . .

Don't forget they say "could say you 30% or more". Which means you possibly "could not" save that much. Maybe the 15 minutes is only worth a buck or two in savings. Either way you're now on their mailing list. Think of all the money it takes to print all those letters that go straight into the trash.

EXACTLY, Pen. It's like this wall-mounted rack that The Lovely Mrs. Mudge bought to hang her blowdryer and curling iron in. The package--I am not making this up--said "GUARANTEED to fit nearly ANY blow drier!"

WHAT?? So if it doesn't fit YOUR blow dryer, you're SOL--because it's only guaranteed to fit ALMOST every one.

Talk about double-speak . . .

Oh, mudge, you're getting to this rant way late. I've been raving for years about what I call the "minching" words that they insert into any commercial, which completely cancel...if you're paying attention...all the big promises they're making. I had a pal who always used to say, "It's enough to make a dog chew a chain!" Well, that's my feelings about these minching words...MAY, ALMOST, COULD BE, etc. etc.
nothing is ever simply Yes or No. There's always a But...

I taught a college course in Advertising Design a few years back, and the first three weeks were on advertising concepts. I was AMAZED at the stuff these kids had never even THOUGHT of--showing them how advertisers can tell you FACTS all day . . . and yet NEVER tell you the truth.

My favorite is soap. I would spout of different positioning statements of different soaps, and EVERYBODY knew which soap was best for what. Then I read them the ingredients from the soap packages. IT'S ALL THE SAME STUFF! Wet it, wipe it, GOOD NIGHT. It breaks the surface tension of water . . . basically that's all ANY soap does . . . and SAND will do that.

You'd have thought I had proven the world was really flat . . .

I remeber as a kid I saw a bit about soap on the news. Turns out dishwasher soap and skin soap have much in common.

So, why is it that half of G-W's cabinet has resigned? Do they disagree with him, or were they "forced out"?

Well came into this one late..I will refrain from the Cheney bait as I could really get a frothy debate going..just for the sheer fun of it that is...

one side not on Geiko..they could save you X% if they even cover your area...

In many parts of Mass. Geiko isn't viable...they just don't offer coverage..how do I know..well working for a chiropractor, I saw a lot of insurances and injury cases...Geiko only offered full comprehensive insurance to Rhode Island and New Hampshire. Mass had limited coverage..so be careful of what you pay for that savings could add up to a very expensive bill if you were ever in an accident...

including but not limited to an $8,000.00 deductible.

No under insured/no insured coverage
and no coverage/protection for you property if you get sued (meaning if the other guy sues and wins they can take your home)

GEICO = Government Emplyee Insurance Company. They used to be the insurance company for Government employees only (mostly non-officers), but once USAA allowed enlisted members to sign-up, they were staring going out of business square in the face, and have mad a push to become public...

I've had much success with USAA, including the blown tire that totalled a car for me! I've also had several friends get instant coverage from hail damage, etc... They've done my insurance and banking for the past 10+ years and I've had 0 complaints with them!

He, he...can get you fired up can't I..

from one professional office to another..they haven't a clue as to how to handle an accident claim...or a medical referral.

They may be good to you, but they can frustrate the heck out of a doctor's billing office
