Search deep down inside, charles. You know you secretly like ABBA. ;)

The only ABBA song I ever recall liking in any way was somebody else's cover of "Take a Chance on Me"... and it was some modernish europop group as I recall... Erasure maybe? I recall it being disturbingly catchy (don't think I've heard it in 15 years)... though the original ABBA I never could enjoy.

I wish I could turn back the clock to about a year ago. Maybe even longer than that.

Wow, X ... I haven't seen that video in ... well, going on 30 years, I guess. CP is just a music snob ... I've HEARD what he listens to ... most of it couldn't be considered "music" so much as sonic demonic screeches that could peel paint off a car and sterilize a frog at 20 paces.

He has a YODELING cd, for cow's sake!

ABBA had an admittedly limited range of styles ... but they were extremely talented within that range. The music, the counter melodies, the lyrics ... all very impressive, especially for the times. Hell, the girls couldn't even speak English when they started--they were singing phonetically. Like Madonna, they were geniuses at marketing. And like George Lucas, masters of repackaging the same product and getting people to buy it over and over. And admittedly, their stuff holds up better than anything Donna Summer was doing back then.

Why do you wish it were a year ago?

A) I'm a punk rock & ska snob (which means I'll listen to The Specials and the Ramones)... though I make allowances for quite a few bands outside those genres (though very few for the disco or arena rock genres)
B) Xcheck has been a Pantera fan in her past (as have I for that matter, though it was short lived)... and THAT could peel paint off a car.
C) Correction (or at least clarification), I have an australian woman who yodels christmas tunes CD... and it is HILARIOUS (though admittedly repeat listening is not advised... which also goes for that Shatner/Nimoy CD I have).

1. If Mudge agrees with me, I must be right.
2. I have never been a Pantera fan. More of an appreciation. I own no Pantera cds or tapes or records or anything else, even.
3. See #1.

Mudge, I just have been reflective on how bad the last year (since I gave notice I was quitting at NJMG on May 1, 2008) has been. Things weren't good there, but things have been even worse in some ways since then. I need some sunshine, damnit!

:-L maybe not so much "best of luck"... how about "good enough luck to not be destitute, but make you wait for it a little while since you made a smartass comment about/at me" :P

Also... were I to bring Chic (aka Mrs Mudge) into this discussion I wager, while she may appreciate ABBA, she wouldn't agree with the "mudge must be right" argument so much.

I'm sure there's plenty mudge is wrong on, but with music? I bet he has better taste than you.

You like YODELING. ;)

And there's the whole you being a Braves fan thing. Just cementing that you have no taste. ;)

A) Mudge has such an insanely broad spectrum of music he appreciates (bluegrass, rock, country, not as much "pop" as I recall, or at least not "modern" pop ) I'm not sure he's a good judge on any one... though he tends to appreciate bands in any given genre that are pretty decent.

B) I don't LIKE yodeling, I find it FUNNY (mainly when it's christmas songs being yodeled) .... like watching a bunny get run over by a lawn-mower... wait... that's not really funny... but... well... how about a suicidal bunny?

The suicidal bunnies are the best. My sister is into those books. She goes "awww" and then starts giggling as she turns the pages. lol

*sigh* Why do I keep doing this to myself when it come to guys?

And why can't I let it inspire me to write like I used to?

This isn't about "The Boy" again, is it?

"The boy" hasn't been "the boy" in years. He and I are friends, close friends, but nothing more than that. It's been like that since before I went to grad school in 2005.

Been a lot of guys between then and now. Well, not a lot. And more like "complicated situations" than actual relationships. *sigh*

It seems like everyone around me is struggling for a variety of reasons, including illness.

One good friend, like a little brother to me, had a stroke a few months ago. He's 28. He's still at the phase of his rehab where he mixes up words.

Another just walked back into my life and dropped the bomb last weekend that he has the early signs of stomach cancer. He's 37 with three kids, all young still.

Then there's my cousin and his painful, bitter divorce.

It makes me feel like my own problems are trivial sometimes.

Wow. Yeah, that'll turn one's perspective around.

Sorry to hear about their troubles, X :(

while it falls under the category of "writing," I'll post it here.

charles and I are doing a baseball blog. All of our fun baseball fighting with each other out there for everyone to read. Good times.

This song is strangely fitting for how I've been feeling lately. It's the song Pink sang when she was twirling around in the air at the Grammy awards. "Glitter in the Air."

Have you ever fed a lover with just your hands?
Closed your eyes and trusted, just trusted?
Have you ever thrown a fist full of glitter in the air?
Have you ever looked fear in the face and said, "I just don't care"?

It's only half past the point of no return
The tip of the iceberg
The sun before the burn
The thunder before the lightning
The breath before the phrase
Have you ever felt this way?

Have you ever hated yourself for staring at the phone?
You're whole life waiting on the ring to prove you're not alone
Have you ever been touched so gently you had to cry?
Have you ever invited a stranger to come inside?

It's only half past the point of oblivion
The hourglass on the table
The walk before the run
The breath before the kiss
And the fear before the flames
Have you ever felt this way?

La La La La La La La La

There you are, sitting in the garden
Clutching my coffee,
Calling me sugar
You called me sugar

Have you ever wished for an endless night?
Lassoed the moon and the stars and pulled that rope tight?
Have you ever held your breath and asked yourself will it ever get better than tonight?

"they're a good group of guys"? REALLY? Have you seen Jimmy Rollins?
And Philly fans in general are jackasses.
