Hello. I'm not a very experienced writer but I have always been interested in pursuing what others always tell me is "my talent". Hopefully, I will be able to learn from all of the writers on this forum and find my own voice in the process.
A little about myself:
Though I am not currently enrolled in college I plan to do so through correspondance during my upcoming deployment with the US Army to Kosovo. Hopefully, when I return home I will be able to earn my degree in whatever interests me at that moment (It changes often.).
Thank you,
Kenneth Dowd

Hey, KDowd--welcome to the boards.
You'll find lots of encouragement here as you start on your writing journey. One thing I might suggest is that you start a journal . . . your upcoming experiences could provide great writing ideas.
Keep us posted--and feel free to poke around the site and join in.
Happy wordtripping.

Welcome, Welcome, Welcome!!!
If you've got talent, well then, you're half way there already. Yeah! Experience....that will come with lots of practice. Might I suggest a challenge or two....?
I'll second Mudge's suggestion about a journal and add another one. PICTURES! Take lots of pictures and store them in your journal (if you can). Looking at the pictures might help to bring back some of the details of your memories years down the road.

Is this my reality or yours?
Hi, KDowd. What sort of writing are you interested in? What do you read? Feel free to comment on any of the threads and perhaps try the weekly challenges for various kinds of writing and poetry.

Welcome aboard Ken!
I was always told I was wasting my 'talent' as well. Didn't take writing all that seriously til well...let's just say "After college". Funny thing is that I spent a good deal of my 'denial' time writing, just not calling it writing.
Add to the journal and photo suggestions..read everything you can get your hands on...relish the words and images they produce. I like sketching too...it doesn't have to be Rembrandt..just have fun w/ it.
See you around the site..play w/ us...it works wonders on creativity and getting you into the writing mood...
