I get the distinct impression I've lost the ability, if I ever had it, to write clear and concise prose. Take my 750 words for the day below as an example (admittedly these are brain dump sort of writing sessions so it's not like this is edited for brevity, or edited for anything at all really, but ...

It's OK lil-sis *pats xcheck24 on the head in a condescending manner* I'm unsure if it is the aforementioned fear, or just an acceptance of reality, but I suspect that if I'm ever to finish a book length writing project it will be non-fiction as well, though I'm not exactly sure the subject (there a...

I think I'm more like you Jill... the stresses of life bog me down, though they also make me think "gee I want to write" (actually I think it might be more appropriate for me to say "gee I want to create" as sometimes it makes me want to write, sometimes to play music, sometimes to build puppets, so...

13,395 posts and you forgot how to create one? That is funny. I would also posit that if you don't worry about nobody remembering you after you're gone you've somehow let your life be on auto-pilot. Wanting to be remembered is, I think, a fundamental trait of humanity, or at least an indicator you h...

I'm on 114 days of 750 words. I've still only a handful of fiction days, but nearly 90K words of... something. If you want a fair example of what my writing for a day usually looks like check out my Stories+Inactivity and Alas poor Borders posts from today. Sometimes the full 750 is a riff on a sing...

Fair enough Timber. I wasn't intending to say "you guys bailed on us" as much as I was "we all bailed on each other." I think of the moderators and administrators as members the same as anybody else. I guess to some degree I never felt as if, as an administrator, it made sense for anybody to be "in ...

So, back on the 5th of July I actually did do a bit of writing/thinking on the situation here. I think the source of stagnation was much as described above, but I don't have any real answers about how to change it. Jamie Ford was doing a "hangout" writing session on Google+ this afternoon and I join...

Alas I'm as guilty as any of the "just popping in" thing. I'm not sure if I feel good that you still regard Wordtrip "in its prime" as being better than anything out there now, or sad that neither Wordtrip nor any other site are filling that void. We could point to many things that influenced the de...

Something like that, though I might have in mind E. M. Forster “How can I know what I think before I say it?” (though I think that's a paraphrase too)... there's also a piece "I Never Know What I Think Until I See What I Say" - Saul Bellow.

I'm on 77 days in a row now... only a couple have been fiction-y, but I've gotten quite a few good thoughts processed (what's the saying? How will I know what I think until I see what I write?).

This deserves a bit more discussion, but the simple reason you don't see many stories is that they mostly live in the "Writing Group" (which you just have to ask to join). So they're in a part of the site that doesn't show up until you've been added to that group. Alas, even those aren't terribly re...

I didn't like using both grandparents and grandma in the haiku...

Seagull
oh crap!

(sorry, that was even worse than the first one)

generations past
ruby throat with green feathers
wigs and music lost

Not perfect either...

How about a crappy Haiku in less than 35 words on a Hummingbird?

grandparents long gone
ruby throat and green feathers
still evoke grandma

I'm most of the way through the May challenge (though I haven't written yet today), and have found some interesting things about my writing process. A) fiction takes time. When I've tried to do a "fiction" day I've still hit my mark, but I slow down to 25-30wpm and it takes me 25 minutes to get fini...

I've crossed the 20K word mark (and am on day 27 in a row now?) and while it hasn't been fiction, it has been useful in terms of linguistic dexterity and organization of mental processing such that I've got the beginnings of at least half a dozen essays I can flesh out and edit. I'm signed up for th...

FWIW I'm at day 16, and while almost none of it has been fiction, I've hit my 750 goal every day at least. Most of it has been in the "I don't know what I think until I hear myself say it" sort of stuff, but I certainly think it has had SOME value in at least helping form thoughts/opinions/ideas/etc...

750 words...

I think I've seen this site before, but somebody reminded me of it on a podcast this week. http://www.750words.com It is a dead-simple "digital version" of the Morning Pages concept. Basically you sign-up (or just sign in using google/facebook/etc) and can configure it to e-mail you every morning (o...

Welcome to Wordtrip Romo. As I'm sure you've noticed things are a little slow right now. I'd like to think that it's because everybody is wildly working on their NaNoWriMo books... but I suspect it's more likely they're all on other writing sites or facebook at the moment. What are some of your favo...

Yeah... It could have used more editing (I probably ditched 2-3 entire versions of the piece before sticking with that one)... but as the ONLY feedback I got from first readers was your "ditch the rambly first two paragraphs" (thank you BTW :D) I had gotten so far into echo-chamber of my mind territ...
