Mae's right...you are improving, Elle. School can be tough sometimes, I guess. But look at it this way, if you're going to school it means you're young and have a lifetime ahead. Old birds like me would probably like to be going back to school again! :-D

That'salotta smells in there! Good job, mae! It's good for us to abjure adjectives occasionally. (Actually, you have one in there. In this instance, kitchen is modifying smells, isn't it?) I understand Olfactory Nerves but I'm not sure I remember what sex is.

TUESDAY POETRY CHALLENGE - 8-24-10 & 9-1-10

This week's challenger is mae! Here are some suggestions she has come up with to make life interesting for us all! :) 1 One of the pitfalls of writing is overuse of adjectives. Just for a bit of practice, try writing a short descriptive poem without using any adjectives. Instead, use verbs, gerunds,...

BEACHCOMBER Spooning through the scattering of shells, driftwood, wrack, and one lost shoe guarded by a dutiful soldier crab, I allow myself to avoid the ordinary. Carelessly crunching beneath my feet dried seaweed and broken flotsam, I search for the pearly white, the deep-sea green of bottle glass...

TUESDAY POETRY CHALLENGE - 8-17-10

Tuesday again...and "Tuesday tells the tale". Thought we might do so today with 1. A verse, no matter how short or long, which tells a tale. 2. Intimations of Autumn...just around the corner. How do you feel about summer ending/fall soon to be? 3. And our word list, of course, from which to craft a ...

I like your new "day", mae. Just let us know when it is, so we can celebrate. :)
Your next poem had an entirely unexpected ending...good for you. It jolts one out of the nice quiet rhymic tale, as the farmer was jolted with his sudden epiphany

No, mae, we're still trying to keep it alive by coming and by still keeping the poetry thread going. But writers need interest and exchange and these things have rather ground to a halt here.

Sure...better than not being able to do it at all...like me. :) I just don't know how to do all those things, have learned to grope my way around the computer with no help and SO much I don't know about that it would be discouraging if I thought about it too long.

It must cost big bucks to keep a site that complicated running, I guess. I know, and it really bugs me when some of them can't spell or put together a cohesive thought. But here, mostly, as you say judging is a very subjective thing. In the cases of certain ones though, like Danny Beatty and his wif...

#3 The Unhappy Woman She released her bitterness into clean air in invisible ripples where, passing, they withered each leaf with their poisonous touch; and allowed them to fall like tears into the well, the sweet water of thoughts pure and rare, that was turned into salt. In the fallow ground where...

(Word list) THE SHAPE OF THINGS TO COME A rising sun reveals the clarity of morning. How vague shapes take form and substance, slipping from darkness into dawn, gracing the hopeful hour with beauty! Minutes twine the threads of light already knowing the outcome, as a weaver counting the warp and woo...

TUESDAY POETRY CHALLENGE 8-10-10

Okay, fasten your seat belts. Time to grab a ride on the poetry carousel. Hoping everyone has sharpened their quills... 1. In honor of our fearless leader, CP, I give you the opportunity to pen a poem about NOTHING. Any kind of nothing that you want. 2. There are so many days, weeks, months de...

You bring back memories. My Dad would get up WELL before dawn, and bundle us into the car and head for Salisbury Beach (NH) to cast on the right flow of the tide. We'd just lie on blankets on the beach until the sun came up. He had to clean 'em but Mom would cook. :-D
