Thanks Mlou! It's nice to be back. Congratulations on being published, that's awesome. :) One thing about WordTrip..once a member, always a member. We always come back. Charles, I am trying to get Kal back on, he will soon I think. He just has so much on his plate with the marketing of his novel and...

Man, it's been a while since I've been on here. I've stopped in to check on things and see how people are coming along in their own relentless pursuit of writing success, but I really haven't posted in a while. I've had a couple small successes since then and there is still progress. I've attended a...

Patrick McManus said that when he started writing he set a goal of a couple of hours a night (he worked during the day) and he made a pact with himself that whatever he wrote would be sent out. He's a writer that had his start in the fishing/hunting magazines. He found a humor market when he found ...

OK, now that you've bummed us out it's only fair that you promise to give us the update when you finally hit. (notice I said "when" not "if") :) I've come to the conclusion that the writing biz is a high % of timing mixed with persistence and good writing. It sounds as if you have two out of three g...

I'm going to play the other side here. I went to a conference and prior to going I attended a "Pre-conference" seminar where newbies like myself could ask questions that we also thought were stupid. Here were some of the answers we got (all of them VERY good advice): 1- Dress- You are presenting you...

They say (I'd still like to know who "they" are) that it is better to set resolutions in the middle of the year than the beginning. The theory is that you are more likely to follow through with the resolution when you can be active as opposed to sedentary months like Jan and Feb. Also, you have a be...

Very cool look. I like it. I don't agree with the people who think it is too busy, I think it just takes some getting used to from the old format. This one looks very professional.

Wow. It's been almost a year since I posted in my personal and six months since I posted in my writing blog. I think I should toss in a short one since I seem to be sitting here with nothing better to do now anyway. Hmmm..what have I accomplished in the past year? Well, I almost finished the novel o...

Welcome to WT! Now I have to pose a question...What do people see in Dean Koontz? I was just talking to Kal abouth this same topic and by coincidence Koontz is mentioned in this thread a couple times. I've read his books and think his writing style is amateurish and his plots lack imagination. I'm s...

Thanks! There are agents out there looking for new material...maybe they're all busy attending conferences so no one's around to read mailed queries?

Keep plugging away, Mlou. I've read your stuff and surely someone will recognize the talent soon.

Return from the convention

The PPWC was an incredible experience. We met some wonderful writers, agents and editors while we were there, some of whom will probably be visiting this site soon. (Hi to everyone :D :byebye: ) The pitch session...hmmm, what do I say about the pitch session? Well, my plan of drinking enough coffee ...

I went to PA site a couple weeks ago to check it out because an aquaintance had been "published" there. They are definitely a POD publisher and not a legitimate way for any aspiring author to get their name out there. Just go read some of the "commentary" they put on their site to try and show legit...

Thanks everyone. Kal, no, you are NOT allowed to write a humor piece. You are a sci-fi/horror writer and I don't want the competition, so STOP BEING FUNNY. You know, in order to be published in a paper mag, you have to actually submit to them... so get off your fanny and start submitting. You've alr...

AHEM...Sorry to toot another horn, but...

I've been accepted for publication! WOO HOOOOO! First one, but hopefully not the last. It is a short story called "Carnival Magic" that I sent to Lake Country Journal Magazine a couple months ago and they finally replied, saying THEY LOVE IT. (I feel like I just won the Academy Award). Unfort...
