Re: WordTrip Revival

Oof time flies. I too still lament there isn't something quite like this format still active (and, of course I'm guilty myself), the closest I have is a GroupMe ongoing group chat and it's more about life support than creative endeavor community.

I've come across so many of these over the years, but can't seem to recall any at the moment.

Amtrak's Writers Residencies?

Fascinating concept. I'm almost tempted to try paying for one on my own rather than waiting for a free one… just to see how it goes.

I'm involved in a fair bit of puppet stuff these days and it showed up somewhere... It's tempting me to use it as a means of motivation.

Weekly Drabble on Mad Art Lab

I'm doing a little blogging on Mad Art Lab (mostly about puppetry), and they just started doing a weekly drabble feature. You post a drabble in the comments and somebody picks their favorite and one of the illustrator types on staff will illustrate it for next week. I contributed a few "sample" ones...

I've been listening to the audiobook of Lev Grossman's The Magician King the last few days and LOVING it... the reader is fantastic and I think my description of the story is: if you tried to get Kevin Smith (profanity, witty dialogue, and pop culture) and Joss Whedon (witty dialogue and pop culture...

So after dental work this morning and an argument with my teenager my foul mood continues: grumpy, morose, on edge. I've reached the part of this process where I'm frantically searching through my music catalog to find something that will scratch the right itch and pull me through it. Of course I'm ...

Sadly, I expect it's not all that uncommon to find oneself exhausted by the mundane and boring, and subsequently not finding the energy to do the exciting and rejuvenating creative work that might help alleviate the mental boredom. Vicious cycle.

I maybe should mention that I'm, hypothetically, doing a little writing over at www.madartlab.com So far it's just my intro post and a dragon puppet post... but I'm supposed to be doing more.

A) I'm not that far from 40s... B) I'm going to go see The Toasters next weekend and though I knew the leader of the band Buck back in the 90s when I was 20, he was around 40 then... though I do have the benefit of being a fan of bands that were only a couple years older than I mostly (or, ya know, ...

I had the fantastic and humbling experience of going to see The Slackers a week or so ago. In 96 several members of the band crashed on my floor when they were on a budget tour... we were all in our early 20s then. I love that they're still touring and putting out music, though I'm also feeling very...

Earlier I had an inexplicable notion to put in the only Grateful Dead CD I've ever owned... enjoyed it once though and now I'm done and back to Hepcat. Interesting, to me, is that my 7yo daughter enjoys the 90s TV show The Flash which featured Alex Desert as Barry's friend, and who is/was also a mem...

Welcome back Del. I'm in my usual place for NaNo... feel like I should be writing, but don't really have a story. Of course if I work on NaNo then I can use that as an excuse not to write the articles I'm supposed to be working on... so there's that.

I made it to the one year mark on 750 and it went to crap. Well, mostly my writing habit went to crap when I got sick a couple weeks ago and dropped several days in a row in favor of hanging out with my porcelain best friend, but I've not "picked it back up" just yet either. That will have to change...

In the last 349 days on 750words.com I've managed to get my words in 347 of them. I had a streak of 165-ish that got broken last summer when I took munchkin #2 to a Braves game that ended late. I had a streak of 181 that ended Friday night because I had a looong day at work and then a looong evening...

I've put over 200K words on a page somewhere in the last year or so... but nothing usable (outside of a few random essays and such). Nominate a friend's site? (WD 101)

As much as I love Wordtrip, I don't think any of us would claim it's still one of the 101 best sites for Writers. BUT, a friend of the site (well of me anyway) is the Mighty Mur Lafferty and somehow her I Should Be Writing podcast and blog isn't already on their list... but it should be. Pop over to...

It took me a bit more than the 30 minutes because drama around the house kept coming up every few minutes so, while I think I "net" spent about 30 minutes on it, it's actually been over the last hour or so getting this done. I don't even know. I've only used their site one year (many years ago) and at that point it was pretty much just you putting in your word-count figure into your profile. I assume it's a bit more sophisticated than that now, but I don't know.
