Very good read. My agent is in contract negotiations on the next book and the royalty percentage is a big issue. Over the long haul, it can mean a lot more money that a larger advance up front. But, it's a trade off--having that security up front vs. gambling on the success of a book. Tough call. (W...

It's been crazy. Four weeks on the extended list and two weeks on the printed list. Not sure if I'll still be on there tomorrow...but I'm good either way. And yeah, it'll be great for the trade paperback to have "New York Times Bestseller" on the front. :)

It's bouncing all over the place in the UK, but so far no takers. I'm not sure if it's perceived as "American History" which isn't real popular in the UK, or what? I have a cousin in Australia that keeps asking the same question...

Cool. I've never been to a Books a Million. Are they strictly in the South? And no word from the big O. I'm holding out for Jon Stewart...(wishing...)

Timber--positive crit away! Thanks! And I recently bought a set of ration cards from an antique store. They were such an interesting piece of history, I couldn't pass 'em up.

Also had a nice lil' blurb in USA Today and the New York Times, both on Thursday!

Hey Mae! It was so cool to meet you in person. Yep, it does feel like 19 kids on any given day. I remember when I had 2...that seemed manageable. Once we got to 3, things got dicey. With 2, you can go man-to-man, but with 3+, you need to switch to a zone... :)

Not as colorful as I'd imagined in the book, but about as close as I could find. :) The funny thing is, we don't have a Costco here in Great Falls, so I haven't seen this article first-hand yet. I guess that's what happens when you live off th...

I'm actually going back to Hastings on Saturday for a talk/reading/signing, so no need to sign yet. They have posters on all the doors, a big poster display, and the book is even printed out in advertisement form on the receipts. Still dumbfounded.

Lin--There's a definitely a sweet spot between commercial and literary fiction. Too much "performance writing" can definitely shrink the audience for literary fiction. It's a fine line...
