poetry search

I don't know if this has been posted here, but I was looking for some poetry to quote (for the two chapters of my book I've written so far) and I found this site: http://www.americanpoems.com/search.php you can put in key words to search and it will show you first poets, then actual poems that conta...

Calico...about the wealthy guy named Richie...sorry it's been taken. Remember Richie Rich, the poor little rich kid in the movie? yes, thats why it dawned on me that naming him "Rich" is really stupid. I've since named them Sloane and Steve. although, tomorrow they will probably be Cat and Jonah.

Ah, thank you. I was planning on doing a universal find/replace. So far, i've named my main character "MC" and her husband is "HH". Her father is... you guessed it... "HF".

Naming your characters

I know this is going to be an issue for me. It took me months to choose names for my children, and I'm afraid the same will be true for any book i want to write. some names sound too pretentious, others- too waspy or too ethnic or too cliche. I was about to name a character earlier today and decided...

I mean, if i changed the designer name, the boyfriend's occupation say from Gastroenterologist (real) to Plastic surgeon (false), the location from New York (true) to Los Angeles (False), wouldn't that work?

Hey! What are you saying about cheesy detective stories laced with profanity? Seriously, Calico--the only bad questions are the ones you don't ask. Let 'er rip. hey, i'm all for profanity, but this guy used phrases and profanity that left us all rolling our eyes. I decided he should be a wr...

You're right: you're being optimistic. Not that there's anything WRONG with that . . . You have to decide whether you're going to ghostwrite your aunt's book, or co-author it with her. Either way, if you think this will go ANYWHERE, get a contract. Frankly, though, I'd go ahead and write the other ...

Thank you! I hope you don't all get sick of me. I have so many questions. I've always loved writing and have taken some writing courses. I just finished (tonight is the last class actually) a writing workshop at my local college and I want to start writing a book in January. I actually wish that *I*...

Hi everyone. I've been wanting to start a book in January, but i had some reservations about the story I had chosen, which was about the second half of my father's life (he was in prison with noriega, had twin boys who were abused while he was away, then got out and fought for custody of them. He wo...

Writing contests

I'd like to enter a few contests, but do they all require a fee? And if so, how do i know they are legitimate? I mean, what stops the contest maker from collecting all the fees and never actually giving out a prize?

Does anyone have a resource for contests they wouldn't mind sharing?

thank you!

Hey, I checked out the challenges, and the current ones look like they stress quantity- like as many poems as possible, etc. I'm not at tha point but i'd like to read some assignments- are there ever just 'write about xxx' and people submit what they came up with? Its nice to meet all of you by the ...

Hi!

Hi. I just joined up. I'm hoping to get some good tips and meet other writers. I've only written short stories so far, but I want to start a book soon.

I hope.

:)
