If you've been in the writing doldrums lately, it's time to wake up and smell the coffee! Sooo...

1. A light verse, or serious if you insist, on your feelings about coffee. Hissmonster where are you?

2. Have you noticed that it's almost imperceptibly getting lighter earlier in the morning and lingering in the afternoon? Does the amount and quality of light affect you? A poem please, on any aspect of light.

3. Word list from which to build a poem. Use all words preferably in the right order but any order will do.
arrows, clock, fountain, eating, kind, train, window, blue (or any color), tie, need

Ok here are two for ya! The first is a rather sucky poem based on #1 & #3....my brain isn't focusing on combining words in order with the theme tonight....so feel free to rip it apart...I will when I re-read it.

The Second one is in honor of Coffee & Valentine's Day! Since this year I'm sans boyfriend....thought this was appropriate...wink

Cool

# 1 A mere 9 years of age when cupid’s coffee arrows struck
Like the chimes of 12 on the clock my senses rang,
Now, I stare longingly at the fountain of piping hot elixir at every Starbucks
I have discovered there are beans for eating and chocolates with a hidden coffee tang
The kind that make me come alive and I can not refrain
I grab a muffin and a cup of Joe,
Before catching my morning train.
Sitting by the window I smell my dark darling, while watching the crowds squash in and out
Coats of every hue: black, brown, red blue.
Scarves coiled around necks; an errant tie peeking out.
But, I am safe and warm in my corner inhaling the fragrant steam
The morning drudgery fades
With my coffee by my side Cranky, lonely faces are nothing to me
My daily commute is a blissful journey into hazelnut cream
To start my day I coffee essential
I will always heed the need
My addiction is not experimental!

Cool
Deep dark and rich
Your scent penetrates my senses
Your heat courses through me
You linger on my mouth
Taunting me to ask for more
More is not a choice,
More is a necessity
In any form, any time so long as I can taste you.
I long for your first bite,
My heart races, my nerves come to life
You’re my arousal in the morning
My haven in the muck of the day
I smell your fragrance and I’m transported to a place
Mysterious and sweet
You are what I long for
You are what I need
My sweet potion, my cup of coffee!

Yep, second one's a winner but it needs a title. *smile*
The first one paints a good picture too. It's been years since I squeezed into one of those traveling sardine cans and when I did there was no Starbucks to take the edge off.
Glad you popped in. We need some renewal around here and a few sparks flying again. Come back (soon), Little Sheba.

The hands of the clock are arrows,
pointing the minutes that flow
like a fountain, rising and falling,
life eating the days in ticks and tocks,
as a train measures miles on the ties
in clicks and clacks. I hope
when the light at my window hazes
into evening blue, and I need
fine moments to remember,
that memory will be kind.

Little Sheba is here!!

I'm open to suggestions on a title! Any takers???

The 1st one was ok, but not jelling at all. I couldn't get my brain to cooperate with mixing the theme & words.

I like yours...get a sense of time slipping away & hoping for some kindness as it winds towards the end.

Here's a quickie from the word list.

Sniper

Arrows flew in quick succession
as if seconds ticked off the clock.
The city's citizens sat by the fountain
at tiny tables eating their lunches
and listening to the train whistles
from the station across the street.

We watched through the window,
as the munchers scattered,
all but one who lay on the ground,
her blue sweater growing a red stain.
The assailant had tied us up
when he took our apartment to the roof.
Now, he had no more need of us.

Challenge No. 1. Keep in mind, please, I don't drink coffee. But here's my offering, anyway.

mae

Double-double skinny

Bubbles and gurgles
and glubs and burbles.
The coffee perks in the pot.

Splats and splatters
and splashes and spills.
My goodness, this stuff is hot!

Enticing aroma
piercing night's coma,
luring you from your bed.

Day's elixir,
sure-fire fixer
for the cobwebs in your head!

Mae!

I luv the 2nd 1!!! I'm brewing coffee as we speak!
Reading your poem for some reason gave me a flashback to "bedlnobs & broomsticks" don't know why, but I haven't thought of that in ages! Now to get coffee! & see if I have that movie!

mae...starts out serene, ends up gruesome. Well, that's life sometimes, I guess. I like your coffee poem very much, for its rhythm. But if you don't like coffee, you could expess THAT dislike in verse too. *grin*

I know it's Tuesday but I thought I'd let the last 2 challenges linger a while. We haven't had many takers lately. Guess everyone's busy, busy.

Here's my answer to challenge #2. I can't think of a suitable title. Any suggestions? mae

Shh. Dawn's still sleeping,
though it's time for waking soon.
She's rising later and later
and I fear she'll sleep 'til noon!

Now the time grows late
and we've looked all around.
Sun's ready for sleep
but Dusk can't be found!

These children of night
are dawdling away
the hours reserved
for the middle of the day!

Arrows on a black clock seem like an ordinary thing
But lately people are second guessing that.
Could a tie be covered in arrows for decoration?
For sure! It might look kinda cool.
An arrow could point in yet the perfect direction
For a senic ride on a train
So many people look out those train windows
To see the different kinds of wild life while eating their high class meals
There's a need for improvement in our wildlife..
I mean did you ever hear about the young Russian guy who put a fountain
In the middle of a forest?
Crazy, eh?
This isn't about the trains or the wildlife.
Its about the arrows.
You wouldnt have anything without them.

The hardest word to put in this was fountain..
I had no idea..
So now it sounds cheesey but I think its funny:)

Yeah, you got the words in. But you KNOW it needs editing and polishing and coherence. Your poem dashes off in several different directions. And what are "people second guessing" about? Watch the spelling...scenic. (That's what google is for. *grin*)
It started off well...you hooked me with "arrows on a black clock" but then you quickly wandered away; and why not try sticking with that theme?
To make a poem unique look beyond the obvious meaning of a word: train..why not the train of a gown or to train an animal, plant, human; train whistle brings up poetic thoughts.
